The First Jalapeno of the year was surprisingly hot
This plant survived the winter in the house so maybe it was saving that heat for me.

heh, had to store up a lot of heat to get thru the winter.
Yeah i don’t know what the grocery store chiles are doing but anything from the garden is at least 10x as hot. Have you tried shishitos?

Nice. I’ve never been able to get one to live through a winter indoors. Gotta let them get red - they taste better than the green ones, but don’t transport well.

I swear they send us the insipid ones up here. Most seem to be about as spicy as bell peppers.
However, I have also noticed that of the ones from the store, the ones with striations tend to be distinctly spicier than the ones without. Not sure why.

It grew one whole pepper in the coffee can it lived in next year, it wasn’t hot. It got a head start, we just put the coffee can back outside.

I have some smoked chili peppers from last year. Still pack a good punch. This years crop is not as good. 2020 sucks all over.
